Auburn is a rural-feel town directly east of Manchester, with Massabesic Lake, Manchester's water supply, along its western side. Route 101 crosses the north end as a four-lane highway, Route 121 runs through the center, and the Route 28 Bypass follows the west side.
The Severance section and the village center each have their own feel, and much of the rest of town is woods, stone walls, and larger lots. The Massabesic Audubon Center at Battery Point has trails along the lake shore, and Tower Hill Pond and Clark Pond add more water to the map.
Mount Miner, Mine Hill, and Mount Misery give the town its rolling ridges. The Griffin Free Public Library serves the town.
The Auburn School District runs Auburn Village School for kindergarten through grade 8, and Auburn high schoolers attend Pinkerton Academy in Derry.
