Kingston kept something a lot of its neighbors gave up, a genuine town center. The Plains is a long green common, and the Kingston historic district wraps around it with older homes, the Plains Cemetery, and the Nichols Memorial Library, built in 1898.
Route 125 runs north and south through town toward Plaistow and Brentwood, and West Kingston is the town's other village. Kingston State Park puts a swimming beach and picnic grounds on Great Pond, and Country Pond and the Powwow River add more water to the map.
